How to Enable or Disable Two-Step Verification on WhatsApp

HIGHLIGHT

  • Two Step authentication protects your WhatsApp in case of phone theft.

Consider this scenario - somebody steals your phone, removes the SIM card and puts it in another phone, they can potentially impersonate you on WhatsApp, as all they need to do is re-verify using the OTP SMS. To prevent such fraudulent activity, WhatsApp has introduced two-step verification for its popular chat app. If enabled, you can set a six digit code which will be required every time during re-verification of your WhatsApp account. If you’re worried about the above happening to you, we recommend that you turn two-step verification on.

  • How to Enable or Disable Two-Step Verification on WhatsApp
  • 1. Go to settings>Account>Two Step Verification
  •
  • 2. Click on Enable.
  •
  • 3. Enter a 6 digit passcode which you'll be asked for when you register your phone number with WhatsApp.
  •
  • 4. Confirm your passcode.

  • 5. Add an email address to your account which will be used to reset your passcode, if you forget it and safeguard your account.
  • You can also skip this, but its better to be on safe side, and add an email.

  • 6. Just confirm the email once again.

    7. Once email is confirmed you will get the confirmation "Two step verification enabled."

8. You can simply disable it. If you don't wanna use this feature.
